Born to industrialist VD Swami and Bharatnatyam dancer Vasantha, Arvind was introduced to the world of glamour very earn on. His acting journey began when he was spotted by renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam in an advertisement. Impressed by his on-screen presence, he cast Arvind in the 1991 film Thalapathi alongside superstars Rajinikanth and Mammootty. But it was his role in Roja (1992) and Bombay (1995) that catapulted him to stardom.
Arvind’s popularity crossed regional boundaries and his stardom reached pan-India audience. Despite his early fame, his career faced a downward turn when his couple of films failed. In 2000, he quit industry and began focusing on his father’s business. Arvind took on the role of a chairman and managing director at ProLease India, a payroll processing company. By 2005, he focused on his own company, Talent Maximus, which focused on similar services. The company expanded rapidly and it reported a revenue of Rs 3300 crore ($418 million).
However, his life took an unexpected turn when he suffered a severe spinal injury. This injury left him with partial paralysis in his leg and caused him an “extreme, excruciating pain.” Despite this, Arvind Swamy didn’t give up and after years of struggle and recovery, he made a remarkable return to the silver screen with the film Kadal, helmed by Mani Ratnam.
