Daya Nayak is a distinguished figure in the police force, having conducted 87 encounters during his career. He became famous as a member of the ‘Detention Unit,’ a special team formed in the late 1990s. Daya began his police career in 1995, and his first encounter, which took place in December 1996, involved two notorious gangsters from the Chota Rajan Gang. Before rising to fame in the police force, Daya worked as a plumber and even as a hotel table cleaner to support his family.
In 1995, he joined the Mumbai Police Force as a trainee and was soon assigned to the Juhu police station. His career in law enforcement became so legendary that it inspired the character portrayed by Nana Patekar in the film Ab Tak Chhappan. Daya’s life also influenced the films Risk, Encounter Daya Nayak, Siddham, Golimaar, and Department, all of which feature elements of his career as an encounter specialist.
