Australia women defeated England women by four wickets in the opening ODI match of the Women’s Ashes 2025 at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney on Sunday, 12 January 2025. Asked to bat first, England could only make 204 runs as Ashleigh Gardner took three wickets whereas Kim Garth, Annabel Sutherland and Alana King grabbed a couple of wickets each. Captain Heather Knight was the to-scorer for England with 39 runs. Australia chased down the target in 38.5 overs to win the match comfortably as captain Alyssa Healy scored 70 off 78 balls and Gardner played an unbeaten 42-run knock, which helped her to get Player of the Match award.
