The festival of lights aka Diwali was celebrated with much pomp and vigour across India. But it was more of a festival of sounds than lights with the national capital leading from the top. Even after several warnings and cautionary notices, Delhi-NCR woke up to the ear-splitting noises of fire-crackers erupting in the sky and the unhealthy smell of burnt gunpowder. Situations were similar in Haryana too, especially in Gurugram. Recently, a video of a group of men engaging in dangerous stunts involving blazing fire was caught on camera on Diwali night. Not only were the internet users baffled by the incident, but they also criticised the reckless behaviour.

A video of the incident was dropped on X (formerly known as Twitter) by a user named Sachin Gupta. Along with the video, the user also tagged the Gurgaon police. The caption revealed that the rowdy group of men doing the illegal feat were from the Delhi-NCR region, “This is not Diwali celebration, this is anarchy!! NCR boys have become so clever that they have even hidden the number plates of vehicles,” it read.

The video captures a Sumo car speeding on the road in Gurugram while bursting firecrackers on the moving vehicle’s roof. The flames continue to rise in the air and emit amber. Soon, two other cars accompanied the former vehicle. While one person peeked their head out from the car’s window, another looked up from the vehicle’s sunroof. The three waved and shouted at each other while the firecrackers continued to explode. The men hid the number plates of their cars so that their identity remained mysterious and they could evade the eyes of the police.

X users flocked to the comment section to express their disgust at the incident. “This is dangerous and can cause accidents. What is happening here?” pointed out an individual. Another termed it to be complete “Lawlessness”. “This is what anarchy looks like,” wrote a disappointed user.

According to reports, Varun Kumar Dahiya — ACP Gurugram has released a statement saying, “We are getting information from social media and other platforms that some people are misusing their vehicles and creating nuisance on the roads. They are bursting firecrackers in moving vehicles. We are collecting information and a strict investigation will be done against them… We are collecting area-specific information through CCTVs and other sources.”
